Here’s a video about Donovan Bailey in which Dan is heavily featured.

Credit goes to my friend Jonas for finding this and sending it my way.

From what I hear you’re in very close proximity to Jonas now.

Thanks for the link as it’s a great video

nice video…what did ye think of bailey tech. in the cleans…

Looked very average to below average in technique. I’d imagine his anthropometry (long legs with very short torso) probably made them very awkward.

His technique in the clean (as I have said many times before) seems to be the norm rather than the exception in high caliber athletics guys.

pitkamaki powercleans..looks like a bad catch position to me..what would be adequate technique..would pitkamaki clean be ok or potenially dangerous..

His catch is definitely low and he does a poor job of getting under the bar and rotating the elbows around the bar but I don’t think it’s very dangerous.

It makes you wonder how valid the arguments of technique sticklers can be. I recall seeing video of Ottey power cleaning and it was atrocious.

I think the technique sticklers will always have an argument. One would expect better technique from a well coached world record holder, but it just goes to show you.

We shouldn’t become obsessed with being the next John Garhammer. As Donovan pointed out, there are a million little things you need to do to get there. Always strive for technical perfection, but realize that less than ideal technique in power cleans won’t prevent you from reaching the podium.

While not great, I wouldn’t put that in the same league as what I saw Merlene Ottey do. I think if Carl just kept the bar closer to the body he’d fix most of his problems. Merlene’s OLs (at least the ones I saw) were an abomination. Maybe I’m just not able to see the errors though…I can’t seem to take my eyes off of sprinting and lifting in in short shorts and black high top basketball shoes.

        BTW-
That video is a real gem. I’ve never seen that and videos on that training group are pretty rare.

I told Mort the same thing about Carl OL’s tech. Damn I love the black high tops.
