The Helgerud study with Dr.Rodas was a prime example of what we need to do with sharing the evidence of intervention. Obvious elite athletes are skilled, but shouldn’t we test to see how good they are physically in general athletic abilities and at least maintain it? Obviously we need to improve performance if we can, but doing an audit of the abilities is a great start for performance coaches. Frankly the fitness coaches that just talk about energy systems and exotic neural cascades in fascia is a good theoretical driver, but without concrete testing one is not accountable. Testing the sprints, jumps, and aerobic abilities with player weight and height is a great overview. I suggest everyone download and read the article as it’s an example of what GMs are going to be see at the very least in the next year.
