Gabe Sanders- Assistant Coach of the Year

Gabe is too humble to share his success, so I wanted to say congrats to a job well done for Blogger and Sprint Coach Sanders. NEW ORLEANS – Boston University track & field assistant coach Gabe Sanders was named the Northeast Region Men’s Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday.

Sanders (Ann Arbor, Mich.) coached his sprinters to five America East titles at the 2012 conference championships, as the Terriers claimed first in the 60m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 500m dash and the 4x400m relay.

In addition to those titles, BU held the top-4 spots in the 200m dash (R.J. Page, Tewado Latty, Joel Senick and Duran Ward) and Page was named Most Outstanding Track Performer, compiling the most points of any male competitor.

The fourth-year coach had his athletes contribute 74 out of a school-record 151.5 points at the America East Championships as the Terriers finished in second. Page and Senick set school records in the 200m dash and 500m dash, respectively.

While just recognized for his accomplishments with the men’s team, Sanders also helped coach the women’s team to its 12th America East title in program history. Shelby Walton led the sprinters with a win in the 200m dash and a second-place finish in the 60m dash, while the 4x400m relay team secured second place.
