Forces During Foot Strike

In this great youtube, a good primer on what happens during running is present with the X,Y,Z components. This is a crude graph but a more granular component is present with data of muscle EMG, Motion Capture, and even foot joint contribution is being released in January of next year. Note the relationship between horizontal peaks and vertical peaks. If you want to run faster focus on both general hip strength after you momentarily beat Mr. Gravity with vertical forces. Both are necessary but without good foot strike vertically, all of the posterior chain work is fruitless. Treat gravity like paying the toll before crossing the horizontal bridge of speed. A good suggestion is a balanced program, as force over time doesn’t lie with elite sprinters.
