Between Reps and Full Recovery

Rest is four letter word regarding it’s value to some training philosophy because of training economy. In efforts to get more done on paper per minute, the work is now watered down. Sufficient volume? Do HIT. Rest between sprints? Just walk back. Clearly there is research on complex training, as sometimes pairing exercises is important. This I full support. What worries me is that rest in general is removed in many programs to get more stuff done, and physiologically we are not getting the same adaptations. Maximal strength is not circuit friendly, and often pedagogical needs between reps, be it cleans or sprints is necessary. Nobody is saying we need to have full interviews on Oprah’s couch, but at times we need to communicate. We are training people, not making widgets. Ironically enough, a lot of the stuff we are doing that is trendy now is a time drain, perhaps going back to basics is better.
