Testing Dan Pfaff’s Reboot

A few coaches crowd sourced the option of using passive rest vs active rest with some of their athletes last year. It was interesting to see how the lazy and divas that were awarded a day off tested very similar in performances of power to the active rest athletes during the first three months. Then, statistically the active group started making gains as the intensities increased and the HRV and other overtraining markers stabilized while the lazy and divas had to reduce their volume to prevent prolonged overreaching. Track and Field has used easy/hard for decades, but now it’s something/nothing because people are afraid to train. Playing with fire is not easy, but Dan’s focus on bodybuilding methods and other circuit style work does help and it’s important to look at the concepts of what people are trying to do vs just copying workouts.
