This photo really made me think about how much strength is enough and how two athletes with so much different strength programs are similar in speed. Single leg exercises, olympic lifts, bilateral lifts, jump exercises, remedial work, bodybuilding are all good. So what to use? The answer falls in the pages of one’s record keeping. Use a similar program each year and only change what shows to be making both an indirect and direct impact. The next year refine and see if those tweaks work. Any workout with a smart coach is going to sound great when one shares the physiology. Simple math is usually enough to see trends and influences. It’s not so much what your max is, is how you achieved your best numbers and how often are you at that level throughout the year. Good programs seem to get people stronger without fighting for each kilo.
