The Dreaded Muffin Top

42

More and more I’m seeing unfit ‘athletes’ attempting to compete in our sport. Our sport, if nothing else, requires fitness. Fitness is the bare minimum. Without fitness there is no performance. There is perhaps no worse sign of the degrading fitness level of competitors at the lower levels of our sport than the dreaded muffin top. You know what I’m talking about…when the belly fat, love handles, chub love, whatever you want to call it, OVERFLOWS the restriction that is their waist band. There seems to be an inverse relationship between the size of the muffin top and the level of performance an athlete is capable of acheiving. On rare occassions the athlete might be able to overcome and achieve some level of success, but unfortunately for the growing number of unfit competitors attempting our sport, they’ll never achieve their potential.
